About Hector Diaz

Greetings! I am very excited to share my passion for music and flute performance! I have been playing the flute nearly 40 years, and have been teaching for more than 20 years. I have worked with children and students specializing in developing flute players as well as adult amateurs who love flute music.

I was born in Puerto Rico, and brought up in New York City where I received my training.  I am currently based in Palm Coast, Florida.

Some of the major influences in my development as a flutist were Claire Hoffman, Mindy Kaufman, Michael Parloff and Susan Palma. I also attended master classes  and auditions with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Jeanne Baxtresser, and Carol Wincenc.

I received my earlier musical training at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Performing Arts and as a scholarship student of the Turtle Bay Music School and Columbia University in New York City with a joint program at the Juilliard School.

During my studies I was the principal flutist with the LaGuardia Symphony, All-City Orchestra and InterSchools Orchestra in NYC. I won several chamber music and concerto competitions and was featured as soloist in a number of live programs at Lincoln Center as well as Robert Sherman’s “The Listening Room” on WQXR. I was 1st prize winner in the Downbeat Magazine National Classical Music competition. I have been active as a free-lance performer, recording studio and chamber musician and orchestral flutist for over 20 years.

Currently my ‘FluteLessonsOnline’ forum is providing an invaluable resource for flute students of all ages and levels to receive training from the comfort and safety of their home!

I am fluent in English and Spanish.
